Registration is open for 2021 summer camp!

All camps will be in-person, and the AAPS Super Six COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed.  These protocols include masking according to MDHHS guidelines, small camp sizes, no mixing between camps, and the use of outdoor spaces for eating and activities.

Power of Drawing

Animals of Africa

June 21 - June 25

9:00AM - NOON

HALF DAY AM

Ages: 7-10

Learn about some of Africa’s most majestic animals. An antelope showcased within a mélange of patterns, a stylized zebra with a creative color palette, and a regal lion are a few of the beasts to be explored.? Is the snake friend or foe?

Paper Mache

June 28 - July 2

9:00AM - NOON

HALF DAY AM

Ages: 5-7 years

Campers will research, design and create their very own realistic or imaginary animal. We will start by designing and exploring different ways to build three-dimensionally, and then learn how to create a surface out of paper mache. Campers will be able to build their creature of choice and completely transform the original materials into a unique sculpture.

Mexican Folk Art

July 5 - July 9

HALF DAY AM

Ages: 5-7 years

This will be a culture-filled class spent learning about Mexican folk art. We will listen to stories and music while working on our creations, using Mexican culture as inspiration. Artists will create a skull collage, Mexican mirrors, a bird art sculpture, and learn to paint in the style of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. We will focus on color theory through painting with bold designs inspired by rich culture

Ocean Life

July 26 - July 30

HALF DAY AM

Ages: 7-10 years

Come explore the magic and mysteries of the ocean. Create detailed compositions each day, focusing on a different ocean-themed subject. Draw eye-catching sea stars along the shoreline and a pair of vibrant clown fish. Illustrate a sea turtle with bold patterns, a blue crab, and a wondrous scene of jellyfish.

Ages: 8-10 years

Young potters will learn about different techniques to build with clay through the lens of Latin American pottery. Artists will learn how to utilize pinch pots, slabs and coil building in order to create their own functional ceramics. We will look at Latin American motifs and forms to generate inspiration and surface decoration for our original creations.

Each camper will create a personal totem that represents themselves, as well as a mask and a unique textural relief sculpture. Campers will spend time looking at Native American art, designing their personal artwork, and then create their final pieces to transform the material into a finished product.
